When it comes to fashion who else to get advice from than your dear dog? Just think how they get to wear that beautiful furr year long and they always look styling, chick and cute! What's even better, there is never competition amongst each other; no judgement if the fur is black, white, red or hey, even freckled. Well, sometimes even dogs need a bit of spice, right? And that's where humans come in... and that's where pet fashions shows like the Paul Mitchell' pet fashions show. What's even better about this one - all proceeds from the show benefit a bunch of charities!!! Well, Chewsy Dog will be there for sure. So why don't you come and join us as well. It will be fun and good.

Pints for Put Bulls at The Factory

It is always sad to hear about the bad reputation that Pit bulls have been given. But I do hope this bad reputation goes away soon. I remember some years ago German Shepherds and even Rottweilers also had bad reputation, but it soon went away and now we all know that German Sheperds are the sweetest dogs ever. I guess all depends on their upbringing; if you traing a dog - any breed - to be vicius, the dog will be vicius. That's why I like to support rescues and organizations like the Orange County Pit Bull Rescue. OCPBR is a not-profit that helps, rescues and takes care of put bulls in need. Their moto is to accept pit bulls from a varitey of unfortunate circumstances and provide them a second chance. Kind of a recovery. Now how great is that!!!

Want to support them too? Come to The Factory in Long Beach this Saturday, February 19 from 5-7pm, 4020 Atlantic Ave., Bixby Knowls, Long Beach, CA 90807. There will be different raffle prizes, pick your price pints, food and a doggie friendly patio. And hey, we have donated a super cool basket. It has cool toys, a wide collar (perfect for any pit bull), some yummy treats and a huge dog food can!

Chewsy Dog is hosting an educational, sensational, tasty, fun-filled day for you and your dog on May 22 from 10-2pm. We hope you will join us for one or more of our mini teach, taste & train sessions we will have.

We all know how our pets' nutrition is to their overall health. Pet nutrition expert, Keith Lizette from Natura Pet will be on hand to discuss what is found in the food you are feeding your furry friends and the effects these ingredients can have on them.

A time to taste - Chewsy Dog tasting contest - 11-11:30am and 12:30 - 1pm.

Plaque
Dogs rarely get cavities, but are much more prone to gum disease and excess tartar build-up on the teeth. Food particles and bacteria collect along the gumline forming plaque.
Tartar
If plaque is not removed, minerals in the saliva combine with the plaque and form tartar (or calculus) which adheres strongly to the teeth. Plaque starts to mineralize 3-5 days after it forms. The tartar is irritating to the gums and causes an inflammation called gingivitis. This can be seen as reddening of the gums adjacent to the teeth. It also causes bad breath. At this point it is necessary to remove the tartar with special instruments called scalers, and then polish the teeth.
Periodontal Disease
If the tartar is not removed, it builds up under the gums. It separates the gums from the teeth to form "pockets" and encourages even more bacterial growth. At this point the damage is irreversible, and called "periodontal" disease. It can be very painful and can lead to loose teeth, abscesses, and bone loss or infection. As bacterial growth continues to increase, the bacteria may enter the bloodstream. This can cause infection of the heart valves (endocarditis), liver, and kidneys. If treated by your veterinarian with special instruments and procedures, periodontal disease can be slowed or stopped.
